When I started my Pure Romance business a little over two years ago, I was a full-time graduate student, earning my second Masters’ Degree in Counseling. I was working 20 hours a week as a research assistant, another 20 hours per week as a non-paid intern and had 2 part time jobs to help make ends meet. I was also a wife and the mother to three children (ages 10, 6, and 2 at the time). To say I was busy is an understatement. So, when a friend suggested I have a Pure Romance party with her, I jumped at the chance for some girl time. My first party was an absolute blast! There were so many laughs and I loved the sexual health education, plus I had so much fun! My friend talked to me about doing this as a side gig and I thought, “no way!” She told me how she thought I’d make a good Consultant, but I hated public speaking, so I decided the opportunity was not for me.

About this time, I realized that I did not want to be a counselor full-time. It was the most emotionally draining job I had ever done, and I went home so spent that I had nothing left over for my husband or kids. And more importantly, nothing left over for me.

Did I mention that we were also swimming in debt? Yeah, crazy debt. The kind of debt where you pay one credit card payment with another credit card and pray that something doesn’t happen to the car or the house.

I was in a general state of panic and anxiety when my friend messaged me. She said there was a special Kit on sale for an incredibly low price; plus, she was going to her Pure Romance Team Rally and asked if I would like to go. It was like a light had turned on at the end of a very long, dark tunnel. I bought the pack, and I went to the rally. I was not prepared for what I found there.

I was less than 3 hours into my Pure Romance side-hustle and this room full of women who didn’t even know me were so excited for me.  They clapped and cheered when they found out I had signed up that morning. They welcomed me, talked to me, gave me advice, and when I left that day, I was so excited to see what I could do!

I went on to graduate on time and earned my limited license as a counselor. I spent my days providing counseling to women with substance abuse and trauma; and I spent my nights partying with women, educating them, and making them laugh.  Pure Romance was the opposite of counseling. It filled me up and provided me with so much energy.

Eighteen months into what started as a part-time job, I made the decision to focus full-time with Pure Romance and quit my counseling job. I haven’t looked back! In 2020 alone, we paid off over $10,000 in debt and built a savings account for the first time in our adult lives. Pure Romance has given me so much, but the thing I am most grateful for is my freedom. Freedom to set my own schedule, homeschool my kids during a pandemic, easily pay my bills, pay off debt, and just BREATHE!
