“The clitoris is pure in purpose. It is the only organ in the body designed purely for pleasure.”
― Eve Ensler

Chances are, you’ve heard the word “clitoris”. Most of us have, but for some it’s still kind of a mystery. Where is it? What’s it for? We don’t vibe with mysteries. We like facts. Check out these 5 and see if you can guess the answers before reading on!

1. Fact or fiction? The clit is sensitive.

Absolute fact. There’s 8,000 nerve endings here. That’s more than double the number in a penis and definitely higher than any other spot on the body. Plus, they interact with up to 15,000 additional nerve endings throughout the pelvis. That’s 8000+ invites to play. Trust us.

2. Fact or fiction? Orgasms require penetration.

Fiction! Most of the time, penetration alone doesn’t cause fireworks. According to a study from Indiana University and partners, about 73% folks with a clitoris of their own either want or need clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm.

3. Fact or fiction? It’s that little rounded part!

Fiction! The part that’s visible just above the vulva is only about 25% of the clitoris. That’s the “glans clitoris,” usually surrounded by the clitoral hood. The rest, or the “crus clitoris,” is actually shaped like a wishbone and extends into the vagina. The more you know!

4. Fact or fiction? Don’t worry about lubricant.

Definitely fiction. When it comes to clitoral play, lubrication is critical, says sex educator Emily Nagoski, Ph.D. The clitoris is very sensitive, and dryness increases risk of irritation, Nagoski explained to Buzzfeed. Ouch. So, don’t skimp, grab a little Just Like Me (or Pure Pleasure if you’re in for a long session).

5. Fact or fiction? The clitoris needs lots of stimulation.

Fact for some, fiction for others. Overstimulation is a thing. Every body is different and what you need for the big moment may be way less than what your partner or others might need. Go slow, touch surrounding areas, and pause if it starts to feel like too much. You or your partner can always circle back for more when you’re good to go.
