From taking care of our gut health to taking care of our planet, the health care trends of 2022 are here and, hopefully, here to stay. If you have yet to finalize your health goals for 2022, check out our top list of wellbeing trends and get your health in order for years to come!

Taking Care of Your Gut:

When it comes to making healthy choices, keeping your digestive system in mind can improve your overall wellbeing. Research shows Google searches for “gut health” are up 83% going into 2022. People are more focused than ever on taking good care of their overall health, which can start with what you put in your body. A healthy gut contributes to a strong immune system, heart health, brain health, healthy sleep, improved mood, and can even be preventative when it comes to cancer and other autoimmune diseases. If you’re not sure where to start, some of the best foods to add to your diet include wholefoods, fresh fruit, and vegetables. Staying clear of processed foods is a good goal for 2022.

Walking as Exercise:

In 2020, when isolation first took over our lives and many were working, learning, and existing solely at home, frequent walks were one way to fight off cabin fever. In 2021, the “hot girl walk” trend took over TikTok and walking for exercise became even more popular. It’s currently one of the most popular physical activities in the world. Why? Because it’s an activity that is available to almost anyone, in all walks of life. Pun intended. Walking 150 minutes a week is proven to make people think better, feel better, sleep better, and it improves energy and stamina.

Eco-Friendly Menstruation:

Talking about your period can still be a taboo topic, depending on the social circle, but we as individuals and a society are becoming more progressive when it comes to menstruation. This shift in perspective comes from the growth of female-led companies, who are pioneering an eco-friendly space for menstrual care. Tampons and pads produce about 200,000 tons of waste a year, just in the United States. Products like period underwear, reusable pads, and menstrual cups are becoming increasingly popular amongst eco-minded adults. The stigma around these products is still very much present today, but 2022 is bound to be filled with innovative, stigma-free menstruation products that are environmentally and female friendly.

Mocktails and Alcohol-Free Living:

COVID-19 inspired a not-so-sober lifestyle among many adults, which could also contribute to quarantine weight gain and unhealthy eating habits. With more people looking to better their mental and physical health, comes more sober-curious young people seeking out alcoholic alternatives. Mocktails and other non-alcoholic spirits provide a fun social drinking experience without the buzz, hangover, or addictive tendencies. In the last year, non-alcoholic beverages sales increased 33% and will likely continue to rise in 2022.

Embrace Telehealth:

With so many people working from home, it’s no surprise that telehealth appointments are more popular than ever. Primary care physicians can see more patients and provide quicker turnaround on prescriptions.

Telehealth is also becoming increasingly popular when it comes to online therapy. Platforms like Better Help and Cerebral offer mental health treatment to people in remote areas, with physical limitations, and makes mental health treatment overall more approachable. People are able to conveniently and affordably work with mental health professionals from the safety of their home.

Regardless of new year wellness trends, take care of your mind and body! Give yourself the nutrition and nourishment you deserve and invest in your most valuable asset. Try different lifestyles, products, and exercises and find out what works for you!
